About the Mibbit chat server

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

I’m glad to be using Mibbit for our webcam chat needs. Over the years we have bounced around from chat server to chat server looking for the right place. We had the right place when we were using ChatStop.net and we were there for ten years. Sandi was an awesome chat server owner and I learned a lot from her but that is for a different article.

I consider Mibbit a leader today in what can be done with IRC chat. They have a fantastic ajax chat that works wonderfully. I am so glad to be off of the java chat that we used to use. We were really missing a lot of users as if we had a java wall in between the chatroom and the user. The ajax works on more machines and uses less memory than the java chat. This makes it much easier on the user’s computer.

After bouncing around from server to server I am happy to be settled down at Mibbit. We can now take advantage of new resources we never had before such as the new iPhone page.

As CamChat.org moves to the future I think we can count on Mibbit to be a reliable chat host.

My role has changed

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Yes my role in this site has changed over the years. Of course in the early days worked with the HTML code and put the site together the best I could. Every year I’d put up a new design to keep it fresh. I’m so glad we moved to video webcam chat and left the days of the 60 second upload behind.

Now CamChat.org is a bigger operation. The Flash code was written by flash developers, the AJAX chat was developed by software engineers, and the site code is now taken care of by a professional web developer. My role has changed.

I’m very lucky to have the resources this close to me so we can bring you the very best free webcam chat. There is no way I could pull this off alone. The technology has surpassed my skills.

The search engines like sites that grow with relevant and compelling content. Now that all the code is taken care of I can concentrate on delivering quality content. This blog is just one of the things we can do keep the site growing and keep the users informed.

Another important item I should spend time on is social media. We’re back on Tweeter, Myspace, and Facebook. We’re making new friends there and stats show we’re getting hits from those areas.

As the site owner I want to do what I can to keep our users informed. Check back here often to get the latest news and check what’s on my mind.

Enjoy the chat

Ten years of webcam chat

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

I registered the domain name www.camchat.org in 2001. That makes the year 2011 very special for us. It’s been 10 years of providing free webcam chat.

As I look back much has happened over the last three years to really bring camchat.org to the forefront of the webcam chat field. We are now offering free streaming video with voice chat. All they have to do is login and use it. We have moved off of a java format for the chat connection. We’re now using ajax in place of java. This is less taxing on the users computer. The room staff is outstanding. I think we have the best room mods in the history of IRC.

We are listed on front page results in our Google and Yahoo searches. At the time of this writing stats show that 5000 new people discover our site daily. The room has an incredible base of regulars who are a joy to chat with. The room design has improved over the last 4 years due to my lovely wife’s incredible web development skills. We’re lucky to have her on our side.

It’s been an incredible ride that all started when I saw my first live webcam/chatroom in 1997. I was hooked. Now you are too. It brings me great joy to share in the pleasure I get from chatting with people from all over the world and camchat.org fills that for us.

It’s been ten years of bringing you the best free webcam chat. Cheers to many more years of webcam chat fun.
